Tides silence Louisville's Bats in 1-0 win 05/16/2009 10:21 PM ETNorfolk Tides
Four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to lift Norfolk to a 1-0 win over Louisville in front of 7,636 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night. Dave Hernandez (3-1) picked up the win for the Tides, as he allowed just two hits while walking four in 5.1 innings. Hernandez struck out six in the outing as he lowered his ERA to 3.50. After Bob McCrory retired the Bats in the sixth and seventh innings, Kam Mickolio worked around some trouble in the eighth inning by recording back-to-back strikeouts with the tying run on third base. Alberto Castillo then pitched around a one-out single in the ninth inning to record his second save of the season and give the Tides their fifth straight victory. Norfolk got all the run support they would need off of Louisville starter Matt Maloney (3-2) in the first frame, as Matt Wieters lined a two-out triple to center field and came around to score on a single by Oscar Salazar. Salazar is now hitting .550 (11-for-20) with two outs and runners in scoring position this season. The Tides and Bats will square off again on Sunday afternoon, with Chris Tillman (4-0, 2.03) slated to take the hill for Norfolk against Louisville right-hander Sam LeCure (2-2, 4.19). First pitch is scheduled for 1:15. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
